Title: vps file was destroyed

my avast icon on my toolbar has a red circle with a line through it next to it and also when i opened avast it said 'the scan was completed with error : 42040=vps file was destroyed. does anyone know what i should do

Just try to manually update VPS again (iAVS).
Rightclick on "a" ball,move to Updating and select iAVS Update.

tryed updating but said it was already updated. no change to icon and still says vps error

Please open the file <avast>\setup\setup.ini, and in the [Parts] section, change the line that says

part.vps=vps-42403

to e.g.

part.vps=vps-42402


Then reinvoke the VPS update.

Typically it's in

C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\avast4\setup

It's called setup.ini -- if you double-click it, it will open in Notepad.
