Title: How to Upload from Chest?
Post by: BRANDONN2008 on December 03, 2009, 08:55:27 PM
How do you upload a file to VirusTotal that's already in the chest? I wanted to do it last night because of the Delf-MZG thing but didn't see how.

Hi BrandonN2008,

You have to extract the file to an excluded location to be able to upload to VT:

I'll just borrow a post by DavidR ;)

...You can't do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.

Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect\* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.

Ok, but if you extract it back onto your hard-drive as the original virus, and it isn't a false positive, couldn't it start to damage your computer again?

Not if you don't run it...

Also, can you upload in any way from Malwarebytes quarantine?
