Ignore the last post completely.

The error 00000005 = Access is denied. For whatever reason access is denied (there are legit reasons), a reinstall of avast wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to the access denied error. Not to mention having already deleted the file manually a reinstall would be a total waste of time.

Personally I keep my nose out of the logs (including the windows event logs) as for the most part the content is verbose and not to helpful to a user, more so for a developer. Only if I experience a problem with avast or hard errors are displayed to the screen do I look in the logs.

So are you getting any errors displayed to the screen or other avast problems ?

If not I wouldn't worry about this.

Ah! access denied!, .... actually I thought so too.... but it's better to get sure. ( I actually did some google and found it's pretty common error msg, and another one "function setifaceupdatepackages() failed"), but now I'm sure ;D

no no screen popups(errors), and all seems running cool ;D
so I think I can safely ignore those msgs.....  :D

thank you very much davidR, and let me wish you a very happy new year!
