Title: Running avast! through a proxy
Post by: TimN on June 20, 2003, 08:41:46 PM
For added online security I run Internet Explorer through the proxy program Webwasher. Can avast's mail scanner be configured to use this proxy program. With other programs I use the http address
127.0.0.1 and specify port 8080

Webwasher is supposed to be used for http protocol. avast! e-mail scanner works with POP3 and SMTP protocols which are quite different and which are not filtered by Webwasher in any way. The only component which works fine and cooperates with webwasher is Script Blocker of avast! Pro.

Hope this helps

Tim,

I use a similar web filter, Proxomitron.
One of it's features allows me to set connections which it will Bypass.  I set the Avast server connections into the Bypass file, and Avast works fine.
I am not that familiar with the workings of Webwasher, but it should have a similar feature.
Look for it, or contact Webwasher support for instructions.

Good luck ;)
