Title: Worldwide ISPs should close port 25 to cut spam

Hi malware fighters,

A port 25 hater says that closing port 25 like in the Netherlands diminishes greatly the spreading of botnets. Next one should inform infected users. The same policy was followed in Turkey and the number of botnet infections went down drastically there also. Rand thinks that the UK has some 4 million bot-zombies, closing port 25 would result in 20 million spam messages less. Well if you want to run a legit mailserver to circumvent maximum mail size, the ISP policy should be optional. But the Netherlands have a lot of these "legit" mailservers, because we are the number three spamming nation world-wide,

Already done in Norway 2-3 years ago, and all ISP must have spam and virus filter on the mail server
My ISP have Barracuda spam firewall, and i have access to the settings for my account

the downside if port 25 is blocked is you cant send mail when on a different nett then your ISP, unless you change to the outgoing server for that nett, so at work using a laptop i use Gmail SSL on port 465/995 and then you don't have that problem

Mine (regional non-"name", southern Ont. & Que., Canada) has always had both -- good enough that my avast's never caught anything in incoming mail, the ISP has always found it first.

Yep, I use webmail from my ISP and had the Zimbra filter FP just recently, but this filter also kept me clean, I find all my spam ready to delete after forwarding it to the bin or black- and whitelist all that enters as alleged junk. Also glad to have the avast shields and the topping of NoScript and RequestPolicy add-ons inside Flock and Firefox make my protection against malcode complete. As with windows where browser equals OS so to say that is a re-assuring thought actually,

Comcast stopped using port #25 quite a while ago.
