Post by: Cako on January 31, 2010, 03:08:36 AM
when you send the malware to the of virus chest the name of the virus that was caught not appear.
it only appears if you go to the virus chest and scan again the file.
them will show OK in the screen and the name of malware will appears.
My language is Portuguese Brazil.
I dont know if it happens in my language or is a small bug of this version.
AVAST is the best in this universe... ;D

DavidR -

Umm, I don't see the virus name in that clip.
If it's there, it's off-screen to the right somewhere.

Is true, the name of the malware detected only appears if you re-scan the file in the virus chest.

Even if you want to see in the properties of the file.
Before re-scanning the file, the malware name not appear!!

Is a little bug and i think we can wait for the new version to solve this  ;)
PD: i'm using the spanish traduction of Avast 5.0.396.

Greetings  :)

Its there I just didn't scroll all the way over.

I can't recall if I scanned them in the chest or not I was just sending some samples to the chest as a test to populate it.

I think this bug does not happen in the English language version.
but its happening in the others language versions.
in my language Portuguese-Brazil happens.
I have to re-scan the file in the virus chest, and the name of the virus appears.
our friend Light Archangel has the same bug in another language.
I'll put a photo when I get another virus.

Yes, such an option isn't there - but it's not possible to "repair" EICAR anyway.

I know I can not repair this file,its a test file, but i get 2 other virus end no has option to repair the virus.
version 4.8 when you go to the virus chest you have the option to cure the infected file.
version 5 does not have this option in the virus chest.
that option only appears on the screen before sending the virus to the virus chest.
thanks.....

Sorry there is zero information about these other two files, name, location, malware name and what type of scan detected them. Without that no one can say why this is or might be. Not all files can be repaired.

~~~~
Trojans generally can't be repaired, because the entire content of the file is malware, so it is either move to chest or delete, move to the chest being the best option (first do no harm). When a file is in the chest it can't do any harm and you can investigate the infected warning.
Only true virus infection can be repaired, e.g. when a virus infects a file it adds a small part to it, then it may be possible to repair the file to its uninfected state.
However, for the most part so called viruses, trojans (adware/spyware/malware, etc.) can't be repaired because the complete content of the file is malicious.
DavidR et al -
I'm not sure Cako's *two* issues are being addressed.
S/He probably should have made two threads instead of one,
as adding a second issue to this thread may have diverted
attention away from the first.
Problem 1: When a threat is detected during a scan, and the file is moved
to the Chest, the Chest contents do not immediately list the threat name.
The "Virus" field is blank, and the "Virus Description" field in the
"Properties" display is also empty. [see pic1]
If the suspect file is rescanned from the Chest pop-up, the threat
name then appears in both places where it is missing originally.
Problem 2: When a threat is detected during a scan (e.g. - from Explorer)
one of the options presented is "Repair". [see pic2] After moving the file
to the Chest, right-clicking on the file presents a menu of actions for
the file which does *not* include "Repair". The question then is: why is
the "Repair" choice offered during the initial detection before the file
is moved to the Chest but not offered after it is in the Chest?
Then address them if you feel they have been missed, because I can't.
I *have* "addressed" them - by attempting to restate the issues in the hope that it
might elicit an "official" reply from the only people who can authoritatively answer
the questions: the avast! developers.
If that is the case why address me at all, as I'm not an avast developer but an avast user.
If that is the case why address me at all ...
Because you posted a reply relating to the issue of why some infections *cannot* be
repaired. While correct and accurate, it did not address the *actual* question asked:
Why is the "Repair" option offered for a given file before it's moved to the Chest but not
offered for that same file after it's moved there?
My post was addressed to "DavidR et al" - i.e. - "... and others"
If I had been aware that you were the sensitive type I would have omitted
your name.   ::)
It has nothing to do with sensitivity, but one of sensibility, if I knew what to do about it then I would have addressed it, I already said it doesn't appear to effect my system so I 'can't check it out.'
ok guys.
are really two problems.
1) the name of the virus does not appear after the virus is placed in the virus chest,this is a master bug.
2) I found this second, not appears the repair option after the virus is placed in the virus chest,just before.
well,the only ones who can fix this bug are the engineers of AVAST.
it actually exists and is happening to many users.
who do not have this problem, congratulations.
but for me and others users it is a problem.
everything you said I already know,thanks.
the problem is two.
I just think it should have the option to repair the file in the virus chest
My inteded was notify and see if anyone else has this bug.
your contribution was very useful..
thanks for help.
let's see if the next version of avast these bugs will be fixed.
just to remind,
this bug happens when you send the file to the virus chest, if only you make a individual file scan.
after a individual file scan.
