I use Avast! Home Edition. Do I neeed to disable Avast! before I do a Defrag? ... wdc

Not necessary but just recommended...
You will speed up the defragmentation process.

In Windows 98 (I'm not sure but quite sure) you need to disable to avoid interruption of the Windows default defragmentation tool.

I use W98SE and, yes, you need to disable avast! and any other program that might access the hard drive during defrag.    :)

But, wdc202 didn't say what OS ... so, who knows.   ???  

Maybe wdc202 will return and let us know the OS so that we can say for sure.    ;)
