I am fairly new to computers.
#1 How do you use this forum?
I tried to read about the virus in other messages, but I do not understand them. I don't know half the things that are talked about or where to find them.
#2 I have XP and avast.
Avast alerts me that I have a
Win32:Trojan.gen (vc)
Filename: C\docume~1\owner\locals~1\Temp\winhost 32.exe
VPS version 0426-0 6/22/2004
I clicked on the delete button three times already, but it keeps coming up each time I log onto the internet.
What am I doing wrong, and how can I get rid of the virus.
I don't understand most of the computer language, so if someone could put it plain and simple, I would appreciate it.

Don`t worry, you can learn step by step, with time, if you want.

Relax, you can start a thread (new topic) and make your questions or you can browse a little and try to learn.
You can use the 'search' buttom above too and look for an specific topic.

MomC, that file is under your temporary files folder.
You can delete it directly (go there and click del) or empty that folder by your browser. Generally, Tools > Options > Genneral tal > clean cookies, clean temporary files...
Could you do that?
What is the result?
If everything fail, can you schedule an avast boot time scanning (right click the skin, choose the scheduling option and check to scan archives).

I had some trouble finding the temp folder, but I kept at it until I found it. I could not find any particular file to delete, and didn't want to delete the folder.
I went to Tools>Options>General and there was no "clean cookies" listed there.
So I went back to the folder, and just deleted all the temporary files.
Then I ran Adaware (I had 28 objects), Spybot (none) and Avast again. This time it showed up clean.
I just thought that I'd let you know what I did, in case someone else needs the same advice.
I just hope I didn't do something wrong, by deleting all the files. If I did, you'll probably get another help message.

What browser do you use? Windows Internet Explorer?
So I went back to the folder, and just deleted all the temporary files.
Ok!
Then I ran Adaware (I had 28 objects), Spybot (none) and Avast again. This time it showed up clean.
Did you backup the ad-aware objects?
I think now you're clean 8)

Hi MomC ... welcome to the forums! :)
It is ok to delete anything and everything inside the Temp folder. The items in there are just temporary files that, in most cases, have already been used. Occationally, you may try to delete one of those that won't be deleted because it may be in use by some program. :)
As for me, those Temp folder files get deleted each time just before I shutdown my computer. ;)
