Title: Megabytes in Avast! 5.0.396
Post by: SolutionsAbound on February 02, 2010, 08:12:57 AM
Avast 4.8 was about 34 MB in size. Avast! 5.0.396 is about 40 MB in size. I had 4.8 and did not delete it before downloading version 5, and now in my Add/Remove Programs, it says that Avast! now contains 110 MB. Shouldn't it be 74 megabytes? I did not choose to download the optional Google Chrome. Where did all these megabytes come from? Should I have deleted 4.8 before downloading version 5?  Does anyone know the origin or meaning of the word Avast? Thanks for your replies.

I'd say you're mixing different sizes - the size of the installer and the size of the installed program (and also the size shown in Add/Remove programs, which is computed... who knows how).
The installer you download from our web is compressed - the size it takes on your disk (after decompression) will be significantly bigger. Also, subsequent virus database updates will make it grow somehow.
