Title: PC freezes every night after new update
Post by: loki on February 05, 2010, 09:13:44 PM
Anybody have this issue?  Not sure it's Avast, but it's the only thing I updated.  I now have 5.0.396 - Free Version.  It completely freezes except for some use of the mouse cursor and keyboard.  I can bring up the  Windows Security window, but can't bring up task manager or shut down. I will start process explorer tonight and see what happens as I think I can at least view it to see what was last running before the freeze.  There is backup software running at night too Areca - but it seems to be working.

Read back a few days....your problem is comon along with a lot of us that just blue screen after updates.....then avast says package broken and has to be re-installed. So maybe you are better off then some of us. I think I got around it for now by turning off auto update and am updating manually for now........best of luck ....Peter

It happened earlier today again - so it's NOT the backup software, as it only runs at night.  I do have MBAM, Opera, and The Bat! (email client) running.  Had to restart.  I uninstalled Avast - because the next problem may be much more serious - that's how many of my week-long recoveries started - by resets, etc.  I'll let you know if it happens now that it's uninstalled (and the registry has been cleaned of it's residue).

Made it through the night just fine.  It IS Avast SW.  Now will wait till it's fixed.  It's hard to say exactly, but I think I've had more problems with AV virus SW than with viruses themselves!  Had terrible incidents with both Norton and McAfee where I had to completely reinstall either Windows or a HD!

Not sure what you've read from other posts, but Avast and the real-time module from MBAM pro seem to have a problem running together at the moment. You might want to try turning that off for a bit and see if that solves your problem.

HTH, Gizbar.
