Title: License Key 4.8-5
Post by: Zypher on February 08, 2010, 10:35:36 PM
I have downloaded and used avast 4.8 for quite some time now. I recent had a notice that it was going to expire in about 20 days. I read about avast 5 and upgraded the 4.8 to 5, but before that happened I had reregistered for a new license key for 4.8 I have the email for the key and I currently have avast 5 on my computer. Is the key that I registered for 4.8 work for version 5? And Would I first have to wait out the rest of my expiration days to insert the license key?

you dont need a key in avast 5 if you reister online, and you can do it now

Well ok thanks for the guide. From what I am reading, it seems like ill just wait until my expiration date then just do the online register on the maintenance tab thing. Thanks again for the guide.

Uhh what? CURRENT STATUS: REGISTERED   It expires in 3/1/10, so I don't have the option of putting in the license key or the Register Now option. I can only insert a license file if I want to activate the avast pro antivirus/internet security which i didn't buy, so that option is out of the question. I am probably just going to wait the rest of my days

Welcome to the forums, Zypher   :)

When you get ready to install v5, all you really need to do is download & install v5 from the avast web site. During the install of v5, the program will uninstall v4.8 while saving all that is needed from v4.8 so that v5 will install correctly. I have done this 12 times on desktops, laptops, and netbooks and it has worked every time.
