Title: Malware in _avast5_ temp folder
Post by: Wizho on February 12, 2010, 09:55:53 PM
Hi, this is not new, it happens too with version 4.8
When I scan the PC with another antivirus or antimalware they always detect this *.temp files as malware.
For example, I did a scan today with Malwarebyte's Antimalware, these are the results: (http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/2076/dibujoij.jpg)

I want to know what are those temp files, I know they are legit files from Avast. I also want to know whether it's safe or not to delete them.
Thanks

Do you have more then one Antivirus program..?

Using more than one anti-virus program is not advisable

Yes I do, I know about imcompatibility and stuff. In the other antivirus I have excluded all files and folders from avast, I did the same with Avast and I have had no problem. I'm a computer engineer so I know perfectly what I do  ;)
However, this is very common with MBAM and I don't know what exacly are those temp files.

No, have no idea why and what. Have you asked in MBAM forum also?

No, although this also happens with Hitman Pro, Superantispyware, etc...

It is not very unusual for virus detection files to be flagged by other programs. Here is some advice about scanning.

1.  Clean computer with a disk cleaner program such as CCleaner.  This will remove most junk files such as temp folders etc.
2.  Update virus scanning program.
3.  Defragment the drive.
4.  Restart the computer.
5.  Scan the computer BEFORE launching any other program.
6.  If you want to be extra thorough, do a boot scan.

You will find that the scans will run much quicker this way and with fewer false positives.

Some programs will scan quicker in Safe Mode but others will not.

it is so clear:
avast unpack a packed file and for a reason dont delete the unpacked file so mbam maybe make a false positive and detect it.to be sure your system is clean do a memory scan by your anti malware, anti virus,.... ;)
