Title: Disable Avast Browser?
Post by: softwareguy on June 27, 2004, 09:34:04 PM
My friend has Avast installed w/ a damaged IE.
It seems that any application which uses any embedded IE will crash. So it is not possible for me to open Avast since it will crash.
It is possible to do Quick Scanner etc since they don't use IE.
Any workarounds? :)

softwareguy,

Wouldn't it be much easier to run a Repair on IE ?

You could try and use this http://freeweb.siol.net/razor256/downloads/avast_external_control.zip .

Which part of avast are you talking about, exactly?
The Simple User Interface shouldn't have any problems with IE crashing (with the exception of the help files) - it's "IE-free".

The simple interface crashed when the Avast help started...  ::)
HTML Help CHM uses IE.
Tried a Repair, but it says repair failed...

To suppress the displaying of the Introductory Help (the checklist) on application startup, add the line

ShowHelpCheckList=1

to the [Simple] section of the file <avast>data\avast4.ini
