Title: [AIS 5.0.418] System stuttering while using uTorrent
Post by: RejZoR on February 14, 2010, 07:35:13 PM
I've noticed bad stuttering after some time of using uTorrent. P2P Shield is installed, but uTorrent specifically is disabled (default settings). Mouse is laggy, Youtube videos start to skip (sound mostly), however in Task Manager, there is nothing unusual in terms of CPU usage. uTorrent.exe goes to 5-9% max but that's nothing really. After i've disabled AIS firewall and enabled back WinXP firewall, it seems to work fine. No mouse lag, nothing. So, based on this, i can assume AIS is causing it. Any idea for further investigation is welcome.

AIS 5.0.418
WinXP SP3
uTorrent 2.0
ACER Aspire One (Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1,5GB RAM, Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB)

finally, thanks my god ...
I have the same problem (with avast free 418) but when I said no one believed me and vlk just gave a temporary solution end it was disable the scan of emule.
I think all users of avast want a permanent solution.
now seems I will be heard.
P2P shield has a bug and its as you said:
"Mouse is laggy, Youtube videos start to skip (mostly sound)"
I have exactly the same problem,my mouse is jumping from one side to another.
does ALWIL will solve this.
Thank you for making this topic,if you read my i having the same problem and see the reaction of people.

I don't use AIS, but I've read it's recommended to use the Windows firewall with AIS, if you turn off the Windows firewall do you still have the problems?

I had to ask as there are usually problems when running two fw's at the same time.

is not a conflict with firewall, not the emule or utorrent problem.
P2P shield of avast has a problem. >:(
make this test, install emule download some files and put a song on your pc.
dont do anything in your pc, then you will see the avast scan the emule files and you will hear the sound problem.
if you want, turn off all the shields end let the P2P active.
happens with any P2P program. >:(
I think they dont care any more about this problem, nobody say anything about this problem or if it would be investigated or fixed.
Maybe we have to make some kind of voodoo to fix it. :o

hi..
I'm using avast free 5.0.418 and I have this problem.
the utorrent is disabled in the options of P2P shield.
enabled and see if you have the same problem.
go to P2P shield then advanced settings select and allow utorrent scan end click ok.
thanks.

Why would i enable it?

When u install Avast its really turn off Utorrent in P2P shield.

It would give lag if you turn it on.

I tried it already in V4.8 it gives lag. Just turn it off.

Let the Avast default handle it.

If your aware of viruses youve DL in torrents im sure before you open the files avast will detect or block it.

also in my avast its disabled the scan of utorret end emule to.
My problem was with emule.
in the version 4.8 i dont heve any problem.
if emule or utorrent or any P2P can not be scanned, why avast have a P2P shield ???.
this is a great mystery.
perhaps John Locke leave the island of LOST to tell me that.
I know,avast can pick up any virus,detect or block,but why avast have a P2P shield,i cant understand.
I hope this will be fixed in the next update.
thanks for reply  ;D

That i could not answer ;D

Maybe if you have Good hardware specs it can handle it?

Try utorrent its really the best bit torrent client. Very Low CPU usage.

Cako, please stop hijacking this thread

RejZor, don't you have the AvastUi.exe opened on the Network Connections page?

Also, can you please try Process Explorer and see if DPC or Hardware Interrupt CPU usage is indicated as above zero?

Thanks
Vlk

I had the same as Rajzor during beta with AIS. Also the same sort of symptoms that I had.. It was one of reason why I chose to use Avast Free+PC tools

Rejzor,

I think the below comment, which was not directed at your query (you should have started a thread ALL about this fact Cako), might actually be kinda the solution, but this is just a guess after considering the facts and the symptoms:
if emule or utorrent or any P2P can not be scanned, why avast have a P2P shield ???.
this is a great mystery.

RejZor you have also noted that uTorrent is NOT being scanned by the P2P shield.  Vlk, could this fact possibly be being exploited causing the uTorrent engine, or whatever part of the system, to accept open virus code?

AGAIN, this is dealing with RejZors studdering of uTorrent, but Cako's comment(all deserving a thread of its own) may have some light to bear into it... ???  Is this something being silently exploited ???

Most the 'good' haks NEVER end up in Google  8)

Not to steal Zyndstoff's signature line from his profile; but 'Make it as simple as possible, but dont make it simpler.' -props to the statement BTW.

eMule works fine with avast...

make this test.
let the emule donwload some files for several hours (24 or more)
then put a song or go into youtube and watch a video and you will see this, every time avast scan the emule the sound of PC starts sizzle (i dont now how write this noise), this problem has happened in the internet shield , but it was resolved in version 396, now it's P2P shield or something changed in version 418,it was not solved this was just moved from P2P i think, just make this test.
now i have this issue in 2 PCs with avast in my home temporarily fixed.
read my topic about it.

Sometimes us nerds get to literal and once we see one name we dont think has anything to do with the entire issue...its on  8)

We have now all seen your posts, if anything is still unclear just change eMule to uTorrent, as its just another P2P enigine, and maybe of us nerd squad can realize theirs more to what you say than a thread 'hijaking'.

1)  emule and utorrent are the same type of program they are P2P programs.
2) the problem is not with the utorrent but with avast.
3) I'm not a Taliban or hijacker or hijack anything, airplane or threats or cars or notthing...... >:(
I came here because the problem is the same.

yaslaw:
Yeah you're right, I'm a little repetitive, but not quoting myself..

guys, I have only one question to ALWIL team.
are you investigating this issue and making changes for the next update  ??? ???
is the only thing I want to know.

guys
Intel"s atom processor is not a multimedia supporting processor. it is designed for use as servers.. so they are slower than intel other processors but speed than celeron. so i think you have to switch your  computer.

Atom on servers? Yuck...  ;D

As for the rest of this thread - we already have one about the DPC latency, not sure we need another one.
