i use windows xp pro and it seems like my restore points are getting erased,is there something in avast home edition maybe causing this and if so how do i stop it from erasing my restore points,i uninstalled avast and they dont get erased anymore.i really like avast and like to continue using it but i like to create restore points.

This is difficult to say. Avast should not cause problems with your restore points, but any program can cause conflicts with others.
How long have you had Avast installed? Do you use the Home or Pro version?
Lets check on one or two things. Go into your System Restore screen in XP and see if there is a check next to Disable System Restore. (If you have not done this before, Go into Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click System Restore)
If this is checked, remove the check and restart the system.
Has Avast alerted you to any virus in the past?
Remember, if a virus appears on your system, and a Restore Point is generated afterwards, the "print" of the virus is stored in the system restore and Avast will want to delete just like the original virus.
* This is remotely the source of your problem, but we need to look into everything.
Ok...You said that you uninstalled Avast and everything is fine.
You can try reinstalling Avast, but this time, make sure that windows programs are not running. Use Ctl/Alt/Del to shut down all programs listed except System Tray, Explorer and any Avast file.
At this point it is my feeling that there was some installation error or conflict.
If you decide to reinstall Avast, restart the computer before running the program for the first time.....then keep any eye on your restore points.
By the way, I use Windows XP and both Home and Pro versions, and have not had problems with either one.

after uninstalling avast a few days ago i had restore points until i looked today and they were erased,so the problem isnt avast after all(i dont know what is erasing them),i have reinstalled avast and have caught viruses with avast and they were win 32 banuris wrm(deleted it)and i got them from winmx file sharing,so i guess its a false alarm on the avast,thanks for replying

This link may give you more insight into your problem.
As far as the win32.banuris worm goes, I truly can't find much about it on any of the major AV sights: Kaspersky, McAfee, Computer Associates or Symantec.
File sharing networks often embed such worms to facilitate the transfer of files automatically, and thus Avast acts upon it as a "non commanded" program.....in simple terms, a virus.
