Title: favs
Post by: bri on February 22, 2010, 02:17:16 AM
since using ais 5 and sandboxing ie and ff,when i open favorites and try to click on some of them i get a popup box saying the shortcut is invalid.this happens with both ie and ff.if i right click and run out of sand box it still says invalid shortcut.i have to delete the shortcut in favs and add it again but after awhile it does the same thing?is this a known issue with the sandboxing part of ais?thanks

Hi bri :)

I use the sandbox for Firefox and Opera, and never had your problem. Maybe you can pm Peter Kurtin (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=profile;u=382) ( the Sandbox developer ) so that he is aware of it ???

i forgot to mention that i use rollback rx on both my machines, anybody using ais and rollback rx with always run ie and ff sanboxed?i bought ais because of the features it has and to not be able to use sandbox feature fully is not good(sucks) and very annoying.i didnt edit my previous post with this  because it would still be buried under a ton of other post's  and no one would see it.

bri, what do you mean by "when I open favorites"? Is it "Favorites" folder in Start menu, Bookmarks in FF browser or "desktop icon"? I've tried all methods (Win7), but all worked okay here. I'll try rollback rx as you mentioned.

when i set ie and ff to always run sandboxed this happens.i open one of the browsers and on the menu bar i click favorites and click on a link(example avast forum)i get a popup box saying shortcut or target is invalid?this happens all the time and to add that shortcut back to my favorites i must delete it and re enter it.when i dont set my browsers to auto run sandboxed this doesnt happen only when i set them to always run sandboxed.

pk did you get to test this with rollback?anyhow i tried it on one of my machines with rollback uninstalled and it does the same thing.i cant belive im the only one having this problem on both my win 7 64 and vista 32 machines.having had to turn off the sandbox part of avast(problem)on my families pc it was infected(rogue) the other day when my wife was on it,this is the reason i bought ais to use the sandbox part when the signatures dont catch it and the behavior blocker i dont even think works.for now ill uninstall ais and use something else until i figure out why.

bri, this bug was already fixed - there was a problem with NTFS streams processing in the sandbox module.

@ pk: off topic here, can we expect a fix (new build) for the current sandboxing issue in 5.0.454? as you know self defense module must be disabled at the moment for virtualization to work...

Yes, it was fixed in 492. If I remember right, the problem was with invalid NTFS streams name handling.

bri, I wasn't able to simulate this problem again (Win7 + IE8/FF). The previous bug was caused by invalid NTFS streams filename parsing so I'm quite surprised you still have this problem... Do you get the same popup error as you mentioned in the first posts?

To simulate the problem, I tried: - create some favs (in IE8/FF), run sandboxed IE8/FF, open those favs, open them in new tabs, create new favs; all worked ok, they haven't been corrupted; should be these tests enough to notice the problem? I'll try that tomorrow with Vista32.

its kinda weird this time as it is only happening with the avast forum fav and not my other favs.also when i close ie8 and reopen i can use the link once or twice before getting that message(popup).as of now its only happening in ie8 not ff.

pk installed ais 5.0.545 and same problem happening on both my computers 64 and 32 bit but only with ie.if it was one of my computers i would say that its something with my computers but both.theres some kind of problem i believe with avast sandbox, rollback and ie since using this config is the only time it happens.hopefully down the line in the future you can investigate this or something.if you need anymore info or whatever let me know, thanks bri
