What is your problem / question?
Response of your technician:
Seems a bug in avast... other users complain about the floppy being accessed by avast...
Hope they could solve this.

... it's not "my technician". This is a user to user forum. I'm not in any way related to Alwil or Avast.
Just for info.  ;D

What is the question...?   :o

on Windows 7 32 I had installed Avast Professional and there was no prolema.
I have now installed Avast securiy internet 5.0.418 and I noticed that every time I open the "Computer" folder you enable the driver of the FloppyDisk (issuing annoying "GRRRR"), even if I open a HD and then return back with the arrow in the upper left resumes the F.Disk. You have some solution to delete this annoying problem?
Thank you

@ Logos: German Emperor William II...  ;D a little weirdo, so I thought he's good for me being an avatar...  ::)

@alpha45:

well, MY solution would be to disable the floppy in BIOS. Who needs a floppy nowadays?
 ;D

I do not think it is an optimal solution, I do not see why should I disable the ardware a bag a program...

imo you shouldn't just disable it, but remove the device ;)

@ Logos: au contraire, Sire!
It's the french where everybody seems to be related somehow to Napoleon I (and of course to Louis XIV). "L'etat c'est moi" and so on...  ;D
We Germans weren't too lucky with our crowned leaders: the first was a good one, the second only reigned 66 days, and the third led us to World War I.
Okay, end off topic mode.

His mustache is as remarkable as those of Dali and/or Poroit...  I think another werdo in German history would be Ludwig II of Bavaria, most notably depicted in a film by Visconti...

I would do so, but my floppy has an integrated card reader.  8)

I understand... it will mean that I will continue to use the 4.8 Pro... :-X

Okay, I thought about that again. And this is my conclusion: It is not Avast. When you click on the Computer Icon in Windows Explorer, it is Explorer who updates the information about all connected drives.
The sound also appears when you turn off all shields.

Besides, what is so darn horrible about a very light "grrrr" for about 0,5 seconds...?

Anyway, IMHO changing from 5 to 4.8 for this reason is, politely said, not the wisest of all decisions...
 ;D

If it is actually Explorer that's the culprit, then reverting back to 4.8 isn't going to solve this annoyance.

Bob, the thread is long and it's late here. But why do you say the Windows Explorer is the culprit?

The culprit is not expolorer, proof is given that 5.0418 I uninstalled and I installed 4.8 and the problem disappeared... this I did 2 times! :o

because Explorer does that too (it did on my old PC & XP). It's not just AVs attempting to access the floppy drive when it's empty and generating this unpleasant noise, it's also Explorer. Difference is that Explorer will do that when you login into Windows, when AVs when rebooting (this behavior can be deactivated in most AV >>> checking or not checking removable drives when shutting down or rebooting the system.
I don't have a floppy drive anymore, but I wouldn't be surprised if Win7 behaved like XP when login in.

Well, I do have this noise even with all shields deactivated.
I am definetly not going to uninstall avast just to see if that solves this "problem".
Definetly not.

which proves again that Explorer is doing that too (that was my point above)

Tech,
I said if   and at this time, I haven't been able to pin it down to Explorer.  ???
