Title: Avast 5 refuses to start...

I had Avast 4.8 which worked perfectly. Today updated to 5.0 which refues to work.

It installed etc but it just wont run properly. I cant do anything with it cos it refuses to start...  >:(

Message is my system is UNSECURED. Service is stopped or in an inconsistent state... I restarted the programme a few times, uninstalled, re-installed etc... still no luck.  :(

Anyone know why and how to fix this? Strange as 4.8 worked totally fine...

Have you tried uninstalling and doing a clean install ? http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

run the 5.0 uninstaller and reboot
run the 4.8 uninstaller and reboot

Start installing again and reboot

Also what is your OS version ?

For XP you should check Event Viewer for error messages about avast! crash and post the results here.
