Title: Avatar in profile
Post by: rloschmann on July 02, 2004, 01:58:13 PM
There is something strange with my profile. I can only use predefined avatars (dropdown list) but if i enter an URL containing an image it is not displayed.  :'(

Well you do have a custom avatar, don't you?

BTW make sure to check the box that's next to the URL field (in the Profile).

And that link you gave as is totaly empty... No picture at all... just blank page...

Be sure your picture is uploaded up there and then you have to recall it from your profile...

Yeah, get rid of it...

I have my own web space (it's not large, though, but at least it's mine), so I use it for that kind of stuff...

Not big help though...  ;D I'm glad it's working fine for you now... your avatar is up and running... I could make one for you if you just asked, but I guess you're pretty happy with this one that you have now.

Cheers !

Well actually i just chose this one to have an avatar. Sort of better than nothing...    :-\

I'll be very happy if you can draw one for me. Really apreciate your offer (i don't like asking, i know it's stupid).

No question can be stupid, ever !!! Only answers can be stupid...

What would you like to represent you as your avatar ? Any wish ?

I don't have enough time right now, but as soon as I come back from where I'm going now, I promise, I'll make one for you too...

Cheers !

P.S. Just let me know, what would you like to have inside your avatar... dragon, plane, flower, bug maybe, stork ;D... etc.

Well i really don't know, maybe a "Le Doc" theme. "Doc" is short for "docteur" in french. This is because i have a PhD in computer science.

I rely on your artistic touch my friend. Any avatar will be very welcomed.

Cheers !

Well anyway i need your help so...

I am coding a graphical interface for the avast4.ini file. So users could more easilly tweak their avast settings (without using Notepad for example). I know that Technical did a lot of work on this ini file and he will be a great help for me.

These are the program main features :

- display settings in a user friendly fashion : key description, value range or list, color...
- modify settings with familiar controls : TextBox, DropDownList, ColorChooser...
- show specific keys for avast home, pro, windows NT, windows 9X (and maybe Linux)
- revert to default out of the box settings
- settings backup for fast swapping between configurations (sort of profiles)

I am in very early stage design so let me know if you wish a special feature.

Thank you for your help and your interest.   ::)

And please be patient because i have a lot of work beside this project.   :P

I am coding a graphical interface for the avast4.ini file.

I always dream with this...
Of course, the GUI will drop down my thread in forums but, like Sasha said, newbies (and not only them) will love it.

I can't think in more  8)

At least 3 reasons to keep and maintain your thread :
1) depending on my spare time, i don't think it will be finished before a month or two.
2) your thread will always be a valuable reference.
3) if avast4.ini get changed, your thread will be updated faster than the program.

So maybe i don't have too bad ideas  ;D

Le Doc what programming language is this program coded in?
Title: Re:Avatar in profile
Post by: rloschmann on July 06, 2004, 02:30:22 PM
I have not started coding yet. I'm in early stage design :
- gathering information on avast4.ini (structure, keys, values...)
- features needed (as discussed in a previous post)
- GUI prototyping
- class diagram

I think the coding will be done in Java for these main reasons :
- can be used on windows and linux (and even Mac)
- rich API (GUI, XML parsing, INI files)
- code easy to maintain and debug
- OOP
- choice of native look & feel or Java look & feel

Good. The Java Runtime Enviroment is an integrated part of Mac OS. Too bad avast is not in java

Thank you all !!

I will release a beta as soon as possible so you can evaluate the GUI and give me feedback.

I will post news on the off-topic forum. Is there someone who accepts to host the software on his web site ?

Hehe, I would be glad to do that for you my friend... but... but, the problem is, my free web space I've got from my ex.internet provider in Croatia is 5 Mb only... I'm already almost out of space (I have few previews of my web sites I'm designing for some clients, plus lot of my graphic files), so no matter how much I want to do that, I am unable to help you my friend...  :'(

I believe you'll find somebody very soon...  :) Piece of software like that must have it's "home".

Btw, did you see this thread I started some time ago ?
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=3368;start=msg24263#msg24263 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=3368;start=msg24263#msg24263)

Give me your opinion... is it possible to make something like that ? It should behave like ObjectDock - see link:
http://windows.fileoftheday.com/archives/user_interface_objectdock_v102.html (http://windows.fileoftheday.com/archives/user_interface_objectdock_v102.html)

Thanks in advance !

Sasha

Ok, thank you my friend. Anyway i'm sure we can find a host until then...

For your launch bar, promise i will give a close look as soon as possible. But i only manage a project at a time so i will ask you some more patience...   ::)

To answer your question, yes everything is possible, it is just a matter of time and work !!  ;D

OK, thanks for respond... I posted that question many months ago, no one was interested, so I almost gave up on that idea...

Anyway, if there is not enough time, it's OK... world will spin anyway, hehe  ;D

How do i get some of my signature to scroll like this?

Thanks Everyone :)

Title: Re:Avatar in profile

Hi SKYCOMP
Simple, replace < and > with [ and ]  [ move ][ /move ]
I've had to insert spaces otherwise it would not show up.
Hope it's clear to you

Post by: S.Z.Craftec on August 17, 2004, 02:14:01 AM
Well, exactly the same way like you acomplished it in your previous post...

Just look at last part of your signature again:

Quote
<move>HI-SPEED Wireless 384K Down*128K Upstream</move>

Can you spot the error ? I can... you shouldn't use "<" and ">" signs... instead of those, you should use "[" and "]"

Cheers !
