Title: Is WINRAR safe?
Post by: Baz8755 on March 12, 2010, 09:53:26 AM
I have been using a really old copy of WINRAR for years (3.30) with no problems but last night I decided it might be time to get the latest version (3.92). So I downloaded it from Rarlabs, virus scanned it and installed it.

All seems OK but having read various threads on this forum I just need to be sure that this software is not known to contain any form of virus or trojan.

Cheers

Baz

Doesn't that depend on where he/she downloaded the installation file ???

I found a few people on these forums reporting issues, quite by accident as I was looking for the command line to use for WINRAR to call AVAST for a virus scan. One seemed to suggest that one of their servers has on occassion been infected, do a search for WINRAR on these forums.

Hopefully my download from RARLABS is safe :)
