Title: Side-by-Side error after installing latest (today)

We had Avast on a Vista machine (HP laptop) - it worked fine until it expired.  I uninstalled Avast, rebootted, then browsed to Avast, redirected to CNET to download the latest.  I downloaded, installed, and now I get this side-by-side error.  It happens always (rebooted several times).

Does anyone have a clue? 

One person posted a longer drawn out post on MS C++ (???).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had this problem in my windows vista 64 bits sister's computer and everthing got fixed till I installed the last service pack availiable for vista, I guess it was service pack II...
