Title: Update Package Broken?
Post by: ljcool_08 on April 06, 2010, 07:40:54 PM
Hi, I've recently encountered an error after updating my avast. it updated successfully but it showed a warning saying package is broken or something. i checked if it got updated, but it displayed the previous update (100405-1 when it should be 100406-0). I checked out add/remove programs and it says there 100406-0. I tried updating again, now it wants me to download the whole VPS all 37MB of it which i have last night hoping it will be resolved, but it happened again. Im using version 4.8.1368. havent thought of updating to the new one coz im waiting for a good few months before doing so. What could be causing this?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual virus definitions version.

Is there any particular reason why you haven't updated to avast 5.0.462 ?
Not available for older OSes, win9.x, winME.

I tried repairing but it said error processing packages, please use full update. So I updated it manually. Then the next day (which is today) it did it again. It said the package was broken and didnt update. When i tried it again it wanted me to download the entire 37MB update. here's the log hope it helps

I recently did a repair of avast coz that dreaded RPC error occured. After that everything was fine again. Then this happened out of nowhere.

There's no particular reason why i dont wanna update to 5.0.462. I feel like waiting for a while before updating. but if this problem persists i might have to update.

Did you try disabling the avast self-defence module avast Settings, Troubleshooting section, before running the manual VPS installation file ?

If not try that, though I don't know if this will make a difference in 4.8, but the self-defence module in 5.0 appears to have been beefed up so even the manual installation of the VPS may be blocked...

I haven't tried that. But I'm doing it now, there's a new VPS up so im gonna try to manually update. I'll post a new one tomorrow if this keeps up by then coz it will run ok after downloading the entire VPS until i have to download a newer one. thanks for the help so far.
