Hi
I am a member of Arab Glory Team
Our Team translates the programs from English to Arabic
& the Avast is one of the programs wich we had the honor to translate it.
this is the File you Need to download it and it is a setup file so you don't need to replace it with another File.
http://www.arabglory.com/team/Mr.Program/arabic/Lang.exe (http://www.arabglory.com/team/Mr.Program/arabic/Lang.exe)
but there is a Problem :(
each time you update the program the language return to english.
-
Wov! :)
You are right, it's not possible to modify the avast! file - it will automatically be replaced by the original version quite soon.
However, we can create the official Arabic version... then the problem would be solved, of course.
I will check the file and try to update it to the current version (the translated DLL is an older version). Besides, there's a number of other files that should be translated (Base.dll, Mai.dll, setup) - but Lang.dll is certainly the biggest part!
We have a special software for making the language versions; they all have to be based on the English one, but we can modify the resources somehow (move/resize the controls) - and the changes will be kept across the program updates.
Are there any problems with the right-to-left orientation? What is necessary to take care about?
Thanks!
-
Great...
Don't forget to warn minacross about this...
Maybe he can help in technical terms of avast!
-
Actually, it may be harder than I expected. I can move the translation text into our translation program, but not the modifications that were done in the dialogs, so it may be necessary to do the rearrangements again.
Besides, only the dialogs and menus are translated (not the "string list") - so the translation is not complete. Well, we'll see :)
-
well guys as you know Arabic language is one of the most diffecult language in the world
and it took about 11 days to transilate the dialogs and menus... i've been working minmum of 2 hours a day
and now i am working on the string list
so, please give me some more time :)
regards,
Arab Glory Team

Well, you're very but very fast... :o
It took me about 150 hours to translate everything: help files, menu, dialogs, tooltips into Portuguese... At least, reviewing the translation, I found really few errors. :D
Good work 8)

Hi,
I would like to try to translate avast! for my native language too. So could somebody give me some info how to do that? Is there some kind of program available and if not, what program should I use to edit avast! files? What files should I edit?
I remember there were a few topics about this, but I can't find them right now.
Thanks.

I wasn't trying to say anything wrong about it - I know it's a lot of work. But I would suggest to get in touch with me by e-mail; I'd send you a detailed explanation of what we need and how to achieve this the most easy way. The fact is that we need the translation in our "translation software", so that we can easily generate updated versions; the DLL modified by a resource editor is of limited use - we cannot included it in the release.
I'll let you know more later.
What's your native language, Jeccu?
-
Igor, sorry, I'm always spedding up the things ;D
Do you have any html or txt files (or dialogs...) prepared for the 4.5 version?

My native language is finnish.

Not yet, but I hope it will be ready soon. We're preparing to "freeze" the state and start the translations (but actually, the modifications will be only few; they were partly translated in the previous updates).
My native language is finnish
The Finnish version is mostly ready (or at least very close) - we hope it will be included in the next update.

Okay. That's good to know.
There are only few AVs that have been translated to finnish, so it's very nice to hear avast! will be one of them! I'll spread the word immediately when the translation is available, so people who doesn't understand english so well can enjoy this wonderful software.

Well, better, we will be able to translate it quickly ;)
I thought that a change from 4.1 to 4.5 will require a large modification related to translation...

well guys there is another problem :
when i was translating the string list, i translated some strings & i try the program the strings were shown as question marks :(
-
by the way...how come there's still no chinese version? 8)

It's probably caused by incorrect font or charset, hardcoded somewhere in the program (what exactly was displayed incorrectly)? We will have to do some changes in code as well (as we did to support Japanese version, for example). You know, supporting a language such as Arabic isn't as simple as modifying the resources only - but I'm sure we can handle it! ;)
by the way...how come there's still no chinese version?
Well, the reason is very simple - nobody translated it yet ;D
Actually, a translation is in progress, but I don't know much about the status - so I guess it may take a while to finish.

Well, in the Simple User Interface (first image), it's clearly the font problem - it'll be fixed easily. As for the other ones, I don't know where exactly the problem is right now, but I'm sure it's nothing hard.
So, for now, I'd suggest to ignore these problems (even though it's not very easy to check the appearance this way, I know) - it's just a display problem and will be fixed in the program.
-
ok :)
i will continue translating the strings.
-

shgoh, it's because I've been too sick to do it ;D
I promise I'll start on the Chinese translation soon 8)

Igor, I got the same error while using Google translation of Russian web pages. I got a lot of ???? ????? ????? ... Some time ago, Vlk said it was related to cyrilic characters into Internet Explorer that should be activated (or installed)...
-
That's probably what I said - incorrect charset (in browsers, it's usually called "Encoding").
I'm sure it's nothing we can't solve ;)
-
Sorry... I tried to say the same using other words...
Maybe the user must run IE setup and choose the proper charsets... 8)
