Title: Boot Scan
Post by: AlleyCat on April 10, 2010, 05:49:55 PM
My computer has contracted a virus.  I was using Avast Home Edition but it was an older version.  The symptom was a window constantly popping up telling me I should install antivirus software.  I did not make a selection to either accept or decline but used Control-Alt-Delete to close the window.  I updated Avast to the latest home user edition and did a complete system scan with nothing found.  I then began a boot scan which is currently running.  The computer has Windows XP Professional as the OS.  Several files have been shown to be infected but the scan still has some time to run (currently only 4%).  My question is will Avast assist me in removing these corrupted files when the boot scan is complete?  The results are to be output to a txt file which I have noted.  Never done this before so any info would be appreciated.  I'm sure you guys know what ails me based on the description.  I would just like a little guidance about how to proceed after the scan completes.  Thank you in advance.

Avast is able to repair some infections, depends what it is.
First which avast are you running? You stated about home, which would be an old 4.8 version, or do you run a 5.0 version? You can post the results of you boot time scan here, so we get further info of your infection(s). Also download and scan your system with mbam free. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
