Title: Why with a long boot up with Avast?
Post by: jpmackay on April 26, 2010, 11:32:58 PM
I have noticed that every time I boot up my computer and take about five minutes before everything load up. I found one with yours -- AAWService.exe took longer to load up. My freeware program of Avast Anti-virus ver. 5.0.507. Is there a reason for this because I am planning to disable this exe and there is no reason for this to take forever to wait for the computer to finish booting up. Is there a way to go around or avoid this exe or can't? Please let me know about this.

Thank you,

John P. Mackay

No idea.

I had avast!5 Pro installed and Windows XP SP3 would eventually load to just the wallpaper- no task bar, no system tray - nothing, then after several minutes more, Windows would load.

I uninstalled Pro and installed it on another computer and experienced no problems. I then installed FREE on the problematic computer and all seemed well but after a couple of days I experienced the same problem.

I suppose the fix COULD have been to reformat the drive and start over but if the problem came back, I would have been sick over it.

I installed another antivirus program and experienced no problems. What hurts is that this all occurred on the computer which I use the most.

I suspect that something on this computer is causing avast! to fail but I have no idea how to identify it.

If I ever have the occasion to reformat, I'll give Pro a try again.

edit: I also had problems with  two parts of the scan function (same computer) but I have probably bored you enough.

This file has nothing to do with avast it belongs to AdAware http://www.systemlookup.com/search.php?type=filename&client=malwaresearch-ff&search=AAWService.exe (http://www.systemlookup.com/search.php?type=filename&client=malwaresearch-ff&search=AAWService.exe).

It has form for using a lot of CPU %, see http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=12497 (http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=12497).

So I would say uninstall adaware as it is no longer a top flight anti-spyware, etc.

If you haven't already got this software (freeware), which I feel is better, download, install, update and run it periodically.

Don't worry about reported tracking cookies (all that adaware seems to find) they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie).
Also available a portable version of SAS, http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html (http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html), no installation required.

David -- I want to say thank you for your time to reply and it's so much better now with my laptop with two freeware programs of Malwarebytes and Superantispyware to run instead of Lavasoft Ad-aware. It take less time now with starting up the laptop also my other computers that I have in my house.

Smile,

John
