Title: Appremover - (un)packer issue during scan
Post by: doktornotor on May 02, 2010, 10:18:52 AM
Please download this and try to scan the file... It causes an "archive is password-protected" log entry every time the AV hits it here. It definitely is not password-protect, it's a regular installer.

Installer itself is not password protected, but zip archives inside it is indeed protected.

Edit: Double post... sorry.

No issue here - the files (that are already inside of the installer if you check the path) are definitely password protected (ZIPs).

Eh... wondering how it works then.  ???

Excluded from scanning meanwhile to get rid of the log pollution.

Many program use password-protected archives as their data files.
Sure, it's not a real password protection as the password has to be hardcoded somewhere in the program... but the content is not clearly visible, and they can use existing archive handling libraries to access those files, without having to design&implement a special format themselves.
