Post by: Alchimista on July 14, 2004, 03:57:16 PM
There are some site that publicate some Test that is not "manipulated" from the magazine? :-)
I'm curious to see Avast versus other Commercial Antivirus.

There are many, the thing to remember is, you need to really look at the test medium before making a judgement.  Then consider whats important to you!

ITW (In the Wild) is certainly pretty important, but a vast majority of the threats I have personally run into, are existing trojans and worms - some Zoo samples.  Script kiddies seem to be in the habit lately, or downloading trojans off of the various VX sites, then repacking them and attempting to put them out on P2P networks.

In that case, Avast does VERY good at detecting these threats.  Dos viruses should not be important to you as a windows user, so discount the dos virus test results floating around there - as with the other OS ones.

Any case, Av-Comparatives is good - just remove the results for other OS's and Dos.

Rokop is another good site, but its in German, have your translation tools ready:

Bye

P.s: on Rokop there is an interesting compartion, Antivir PE versus Avast! And in the Antivirus comprative web site thee is a comparative, but is relative old.

Hello Alch, I know a site where the tests are really good and not coloured. But it's very hard to compare the results since it is very dry academic stuff.
However, if you are willing to spend an hour or two to read it, it has a lot of good information. Not very up to date, but a lot of background information. The best way to compare is to print it out.

Have fun ;D

I have see different Test on the internet and the general result is that Avast! Home is a good product but in some circustance it lose with other product (for example: Antivir PE). On the other hand Avast! in some case detect virii as more important product, as Norton and McAfee that are the better on detection of viruses.
In complex, Avast! has a good detection ratio for the new viruses but it's database is a little too poor of old viruses, in this test Antivir PE is better.
Bye.
