Title: A special thread made for posting the latest malware/urls/files?
Post by: ryan556 on May 09, 2010, 12:57:00 AM
Do you think avast should make a thread were we can post malware related urls/files so avast can log them into their detections? The malware links should at least be coded or be in a zipped file with a pass word such as *infected*

members can show proof that the file is infected by uploading it to virus total.

Malwarebyes has this same method do you think avast should at least try it?

The forum can't become a depository for infected/suspect files (as no doubt some might try to attach the sample rather than use some file sharing site), what do you think will happen when you try to browse said topic, the web shield is likely to go bananas. Besides that this is a publicly available web site and the last thing we want is to become a malware distribution site (even if it is just links to file sharing sites) for all that want to gather malware, to use or collect.

So sorry I feel this is a bad idea and one that I doubt Alwil software will let fly.

The right place for infected samples is to send them directly to avast.
Send the sample to avast as a Undetected Malware:
Open the chest and right click in the Chest and Add, navigate to where you have the sample and add it to the chest (see image). Once in the chest, right click on the file and select 'Submit to virus lab...' complete the form and submit, the file will be uploaded during the next update.

You can include the virustotal link in the information window of the submission form when you submit the sample to the virus labs. That way no one has to go fetch them
