Title: Web shield scans HTTPS/SSL?
Post by: Glass on May 09, 2010, 05:36:25 PM
I am sure this is answered somewhere, but my search didn't take me to a clear conclusion on whether avast web shield scans HTTPS/SAL traffic or not. I know mail shield certainly does that from version 5.

Is there any benefit of routing SSL traffic via avast scanner?

Thanks.

The web shield only scans HTTP, port 80 traffic.

There is no benefit in trying to scan HTTPS (secure encrypted) traffic, that is the whole point to keep prying eyes out including AVs. Whilst if you had a very powerful computer you might try to do it but it would slow your system to a crawl or slower trying to decrypt.
