I've set Avast to run as a screen saver and the seems to work O.K. until it actually finishes a full scan. At that point my computer is hung and a physical power-cycle is the only thing that will break it out.
Is there a way to break out and/or is this a known problem?
My Avast appears to be 4.1 build 4.1.418/1.9.40/4.2.7.3.
Thanks

What operating system do you use? What is the screensaver that is actually running with the avast! one?

Did you set avast to scan 'archive' files?
Are your avast temporary folder empty? (C:\Windows\Temp\_avast ...)

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional 5.00.215 SP4.
I don't know if I'm set to scan archives or not. How do I tel?

If you're using the Pro (or Trial) version of avast:
Right click the task (Screen Saver) > Properties > browse the settings for 'archives'
If you're using the Home version of avast:
Control Panel > Video > Screen saver tab > avast screen saver > Settings (or Customize) > browse the settings for 'archives'
Hope this help ;)

It looks as if I'm not scanning archives. Although I'm not totally sure. However, is there any explanation for why Avast hangs?

I suggest you check the windows 2k log files as well as the Avast log files to see if they can tell you more.
