Title: avast 4.8 (or 5.0) and microsoft security essentials
Post by: roro on May 17, 2010, 12:55:03 PM
I am running both on my XP desktop, and just read that I should not do this.  There has never been a problem, but now I want to stop running MSE and just use Avast.
Is there a way just to shut MSE down without uninstalling it, or should I uninstall it using its uninstall program, and make sure Avast is not running at the same time. ???

just turn off the resident part if you want to keep it and do a scan manually once in a while ;) >>> it's in the settings :)

Use Add/Remove Programs to un-install MSE.

Keep Windows Defender updated on Windows 7 through its portal:
Latest definition version: 1.81.1866.0

How to remove Microsoft Security Essential (MSE) completely?

If you want to keep it just remove the check that the arrow is pointing to.

Thank you,
I removed the checkmark on the the realtime protection.  That seemed the easiest way to go.
