hello:
I got a link to reinstall avast! Internet Security 5.0 (3 PCs, 3
years.
When I tried to instal it it said that " there was an error while
completing the set up process"
when I look at the set up log at the end it says :
general : stopped : return code: 0x00000003 The system can not find the
path specified
general: stopped
What can I do?.
I'm trying to reisntall the program after I got a nasty malware that
completely paralized my computer. One of those security Tools.
Someone fix it and got rid of the virus
but avast was gone when I got my computer back.
Could that be the reason I can't install it now?
Thanks
-
Try do total Delete all Avast file on the pc and Then Restart and Try install agin?
-
As far as I see there is no avast files, could they be hidden, where do I look for them?
As you can see i don't know a lot about this stuff
Thanks

Are you sure the virus is gone ?
Follow this guide from Essexboy and post the logs here, so he can have a look....

the guy who fix it, installed the "iobit' and said I could use it if I ever get infected again and recomended running it often.
is this a good program Iobit - advanced system care 3?
-
Some info on the IObit company, then you decide what you will do with it.....

There is also a tool for removal of IObit software. Bitremover 1.2
you will fiend it on the right side of the page

thank you both for your help.
So what i should do next is:
go to:
1- http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe. and this will delete only all old avast files thay may be still in the computer
2 - get the malwarebytes program and run it to see if there is still traces of the virus.
3 - try to reinstall Avast 5.o
is this right?
-
yea do like that (Y) remmember update malwarebytes before scanning !
-
OK! I guess something is really wrong, because when I tried to run http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe a window opened saying:
"The avast! self protection module is enabled. For this reason, the operation cannot be completed. to complete the operation either run this program from windows safe mode or disable the avast self protection (via settings - troubleshooting page)"
and as I mentioned I can't see any signs of avast asnywhere.
what do you suggest?
-
i downloaded the Malwarebytes and run it. It did find an infection ; rogue.antivirus suite.
It moved it to the Quarantine zone. Should I permanently delete it or should I do something before doing that?
also do you recomend running file assasin..?
what is that?
thanks again..
-
post MBAM scan log
-
I still can't run : http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe.
the same pop up window comes up:
""The avast! self protection module is enabled. For this reason, the operation cannot be completed. to complete the operation either run this program from windows safe mode or disable the avast self protection (via settings - troubleshooting page)"
How do I get rid of that?
-

Did you try running it in safe mode ?

-
No, I'm just waiting for your guys to recomend what to do since I'm not very good at this, and I don't want to do something wrong.
I'll do it now/ should a delete the quarantined virus or wait?
-
That looks like a very clean computer, so i dont think this is a malware problem......
llooks like the infection you had was this one
Remove Antivirus Suite (Uninstall Guide)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antivirus-suite
-
well I still can't download the avast clean up program the same pop up comes up
what about that rogue. virus found?
-
what about this:
Registry Keys Infected:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\avsuite (Rogue.AntivirusSuite) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
what next ???
-
yes, it looked like that one. It froze my IE and email, all I coukld see was to either buy the fix or not.
-
let it stay in quarantine, no rush to delete from quarantin. the file is safe in there
I would run the OTL program from essexboy`s guide and post the log so he can have a look
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
if the log is big, see down left corner: additional options > attach
-
when I run Malwarebytes i did the quick scan, I should probably do the full scan, yes? and then do the OTL?
-
I did the full scan and it's clean:

many thanks to Chabbo and Pondus for your help. I did get to fix the problem with your tips and advice.
It's really nice to know there are people like you willing just to help others.
Thanks!
Just one more thing: should I delete the virus from quarantine?
-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\avsuite (Rogue.AntivirusSuite) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
let it stay in quarantine for 30 days, to see that your comp is OK. as far as i can tell this is not the virus, only leftovers after the virus removal
i will send Essexboy a PM so he will look at the OTL log when i arrives later to day
-
I have a similar problem too, and because I cannot find my way around the forum, I cannot possibly work out how to fix my problem, so here I am. I had a areulon 32 virus, ( i think it was that ) and it removed my Avast Professional. meantime the repair guy installed the free version. How do I get back my Professional service? Someone will tell me to reinsert my licence key, but I am not able to come up with that! ??? ???
