Title: avast! file hosting
Post by: Benbeastly on May 20, 2010, 01:51:25 AM
I'd like to know if I could host the file for the free version of avast! home on my website (http://compudurr.com) without violating any copyrights. Of course I'd give all credit to avast!

I ask here because I can't find a way to get in direct contact with them. If anyone can help me out or point me in the right way, it would be appreciated.  ;)

The avast! anti-virus home edition is hosted on cnet... do they have specific permission or can just anyone host the file as long as it isn't altered in any way and the download is free?

Cnet was a partner in the release of version5 to spread the load of the expected take-up of avast5, not to mention the other major download sites also have it. I'm sure they probably have agreements to distribute and there may well be various requirements about what can and can't be said about the product...

Personally I don't see why they would need to have other sites distributing it, but I'm just an avast user not an employee of Alwil Software.

Well I would be hosting it just for convenience if my visitors would like to download it instead of providing just a link to the cnet.
