hi,i registered avast !4 home edition last mon, apr 20, 2009 o5:40pm and i received confirmation that it was successful. i forgot to insert the license key.but the icon at bottom of screen were working.now it's is pass due for reregistering.
1. without installing the license key into the program was my computer open to vuneralbility for an whole year?now should i go and do the step i missed last year,which was to insert the 2009 license key in program.should i do that step before i register for 2010 or another step,please explain?i already have the step to proceed with the former.
2. every year when i go to do my annual reregistering must i get a new license key every year or use the old license key?

Hi carzio.1, do you still keep your valid license key they sent to your email ? If yes, then insert the key in your 4.8 now. If not, go to http://www.avast.com/resend-license-free-antivirus.php fill up and avast! will resent to your email. You will need a new key every year.

1. without entering the license key, your trial/registration period would end and the very least you would be unable to get signature updates, at worst the program wouldn't function.
2. you can't use the old license as that registration period, which is incorporated into it would have expired.
You seem to be living in the past:

Since last Monday was 24 May 2010, yes it would be well past re-registering time.
There is also a new version of avast, 5.0.545 and I would advise installing that (not if you have win9.x or winME) and registration is a much easier process, directly through the avastUI (User Interface).

Hi Guys!
I have registered and received my key... I've got Avast 5.0.545 version.
The problem is: I can't insert the key because Its asking me for the License file.... What can I do?

The license file is for the pro version, why not register through the avastUI as suggested above, see image.
