Title: system tray icons

hi all, iam a newbie to avast so plz be patient

when i install avast should there be two icons in the system tray? i only have one, which has the symbol of the of an "a" . thanks 4 any input

The icon of the VRDB and the "A" can both be next to your clock. Depends if the VRDB is running, if you have merged it with the main icon and (if you are using XP or 2k) if you have set to hide icons.

Adam, wellcome to avast forums!
Like Artras said, could be normal or not having only one icon:

On Windows XP:

1. The 'i' icon could be hidden like any other (click on the triangle on the left of the system tray).

2. You could merged the 'i' icon with the 'a'. VRDB (the 'i' icon) will be a sub-menu of the 'a' icon.

On Windows 98 or Millenium:

1. only the second above
