Title: Error: Acccess is denied (5)
Post by: mbg241 on June 05, 2010, 07:36:45 PM
I scanned my computer using Avast 5.0. I had 2 infections. One was eliminated with no problem, the other gave me a message
Error: Access is denied (5)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try a boot time scan with avast, if you're on a 32bit system.
You can also use free FileAssassin to get rid of the blocked file.

Or use free Mbam to rescan and remove the threat.

There are many legitimate reasons for this and without the file name, location and malware name (assuming it is malware, which it may not be). I suspect it may simply have been unable to be scanned and the reason given is access denied, so we need more information.

What is the file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?

I'm downloading MBAM. Should I delete Avast before I use MBAM?
