Title: Avast for Mac and Avast for widows

I am new to Mac and want to provide Avast protection to the Mac OS as well as to Virtual XP.
Will Avast for Mac also scan virtual xp? Do I need to install Avast for windows  in Virtual XP in addition to Avast for Mac?

hello,
simply, avast will scan what's mounted, on all platforms. image file for a virtual machine will be considered just a plain file. avast won't interpret it as a filesystem by itself.
so, either mount it and scan as any other mounted filesystem, or, install avast inside the virtual machine too.
