Title: Windows 64 install of Avast 5 INternet Security fails
Post by: sj5 on June 20, 2010, 08:36:10 PM
We can download the program, but everytime we try to install, it locks up with the windows window showing that says preparing to install.  NOTHING HAPPENS.

we have tried rebooting.  we have tried uninstalling old Norton program.  we have the disc and we tried the internet download free trial.  (tho we have a license key - purchased for 3 computers).  the first computer XP went fine.  it's the second computer, vista 64 that will NOT INSTALL.

HELP!!!!!

Norton has its remains...
The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003-2010 products from your computer.

1) (If possible) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_2000XPVista/1169144666/1) or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_98Me/1169144666/2). Boot.
3) Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

Test again.
