Title: [Resolved] Yellow excamation mark
Post by: jpChris on July 01, 2010, 08:03:57 PM
Hi all,

I had v.5.0.545 and when I went to manually update I kept getting "Last encountered error: Invalid signature file. Setup will terminate." Updating the virsig file or program resulted in the same message.

I followed all instructions for uninstalling (three times) and installed the newest version, registered, etc.

Installation went OK and the virsig is up to date. However, I now have a yellow exclamation mark on the tray icon telling me that "... my system is not fully protected."

Yet when I check, it says everything is up to date. Plus, all shields are checked and active\running.

How do I get rid of the yellow "!"?

Try pausing all shields and then restarting them. Or just restart the system. Sometimes this happens on clean installs. Doing the above usually fixes that. If not, report back and we'll see what we can do to fix it...

Hi RejZoR,

Two reboots, a hard shutdown of the 'puter overnight, and it's still there. Paused all shields, too — no joy.

Did you set updates to manually..?
Or did you deactivate some shields..?
If so, you have to uncheck the corresponding boxes..!

Yes, several times.

At this point I'll try doing a scan and a hard shutdown. If "it's" still there, I'll post back tomorrow (or yesterday, or today — depending on your time zone  ;D )

Ok, let's dig deeper.
Did you run the uninstall utility before the reinstall(s)..?

OK, which Updates are set to Manual (Program only or Both) ?

Next which of these have Status Bar monitoring options have you unchecked (see image), 1, 2, 3, all ?

Of course. I followed directions; three times.

Both.

Anyway, after checking and unchecking a number of items it's finally behaving like the previous version.  ;D

I read in another post about including a "user settings" utility in the next release and I hope Alwil will do this as it will simplify any program update.

So, it's working and I'm happy!

Thanks for your help, guys. Is there any way to mark this thread a Resolved?

Done! (and thanks, again)

By the by, is there a place to write to Alwil to suggest a "User Settings" .ini file or something so I don't have to go through this again with the next program update? I know I'm going to lose the paper it's written on now.  ::)

avast5.ini and the other shield ini files generally already contain the default and users settings, they aren't contained in one single location/file as in the old avast4.ini file. So it is possibly to save these files periodically.
