Title: virus found
Post by: lees4 on July 24, 2004, 05:17:43 PM
Hello all, Avast! has found 4 viruses and sent them to the chest.  Avast! said coulnd not repair them.. Should I now delete them from the chest?

A0018735.dll  C:\system volume information\_ restore

A0019131.dll  C:\sytem volume information\_ restore win32:kuang

pav.sig  C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Activescan\win95: Matyas
pav.sig C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\win95: Matyas

Pav.sig I understand is from panda and really nothing to worry about. Is that right?

1) Disable system restore
2) Reboot
3) Run a full system scan
4) Remove all infected files

If you still have Panda Antivirus installed, you must not remove those files ofcourse  :D
Here you can find what is known about Avast detecting infections in Panda files:

In general it is not advised to have two different anti virus applications running at the same time.

I have used the panda online scanner but don't actually use their software.

Hi Lees,

You can delete them from the Chest, but the location you give for the original file location is a windows protected folder used by System Restore so I would also recommend that you disable system restore, reboot and scan to ensure that your system is clean, if so then enable system restore.

Win XP ME - How to disable System Restore (http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm)

As you say the pav.sig stuff is not a virus, but the signature of the virus file. I would stop using PAV's online scanner and remove it from your uninstall/system and use one of the other online scanners scuh as Trend Micro's Housecall, this at least encrypts its siignature files so they don't cause false positive hits.

You will find the Links Thread useful -
