Hi David R

I have been using Avast internet security (in trial mode) 5.0.584.

Well that would be AIS 5.0.594 there was no 5.0.584 version.

The important part of the question asked in your other topic is what AV have you had before on this system and how did you get rid of it.

So I will ask it again here as you didn't answer it in that other topic - Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

ya it was AIS 5.0.594

I uninstalled it by simply windows add/remove program then rebooted run ccleaner then rebooted again then installed the free version of avast 5.0.594. currently i m also running MBAM (free), SAS(free) and spyware blaster (Free).

Please read the question again as you are missing the most important part what AV did you have before avast (as many leave remnants) ?

Hi DavidR, sorry for the misunderstanding........

Before avast i used bitdefender total security 2010. but i dont think bitdefender is causing this problem bacause after bitdefender i used AIS (in trial mode) which works just fine.

Well stranger things have been known to happen when it comes to conflict there doesn't appear to be any time schedule.

I don't know if this tool is for the version you had and if it will do the trick - Bitdefender Windows 32bit versions - http://www.bitdefender.com/files/KnowledgeBase/file/BitDefender_Uninstall_Tool.exe (http://www.bitdefender.com/files/KnowledgeBase/file/BitDefender_Uninstall_Tool.exe). BitDefender_Uninstall_Toolx64.exe for 64bit versions.

But worth a try to ensure any remnants are gone. You're welcome.

Let us know if it doesn't resolve this and we can run through a clean reinstall however, if using the AIS in trial 30 days, uninstalling it would be considered a conclusion to the trial. So if you have done this already, when you reinstall it you don't get a new fresh 30 days (anti-piracy measure), only 6 days I believe before it would stop working.

So I don't know if this is what might be going on, if so then you have to make up your mind to purchase and enter the license file or downgrade to the avast free version (reinstall).

Hi davidR

i tried both uninstaller ie using the uninstaller tool of bitdifender and avast .  then reinstalled the avast 5 free. but problem is still same i cant make it run while i m offline.

well i m about to reinstall my OS in a few days time anyway hope that solves everything. In the meantime just cant run my pendrive while i m not in internet.

Thank you and have a great time......... :D

You're welcome.

That is certainly weird as I can't see why using a pen drive would be in any way linked to needing an internet connection.

Because i can not scan with avast unless i m connected to internet (The pendrive might contain some threat).

Thats my main weird problem when i m connected to internet avast works just fine and as soon as i disconnect internet avast doesnot seem to work. :-\

No problem, glad that you have it resolved now, though an OS reinstall seems a bit heavy.

ya it is heavy but as i foolishly deleted the trusted installer.exe, which avast detected as rootkit, causes problem with my windows update, so OS reinstallation is the only option available to me. well everything is fine now...........

On a personal note avast is really giving FP in rootkit much too often, i myself started a topic here about another rootkit activity in my system and it was turned out to be FP. really hoping avast team will sort it out soon.........
