Some people had trouble updating and got the error "Package broken." Good to hear it's fixed though. :)

Thank you, all is well now. The virus data base (VPS 100812-0 ) has been automatically generated at
4:2-am on 12/08/2010. My version is Avast 4.8 free. Do I need to upgrade to
Avast 5 free???

Usually not...
The installer takes care of that, but if you should run into problems...
You can use the uninstall utility in safe mode: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
