hallo,
problem: my email-programm (postme 3,5), doesn't open attachmebts with the ending doc.safe. I must rename them in the explorer (kill the safe), than I can open them. Is it possible, that avast rename the attachments? How can I stop it?

Avast mail scanner does not rename attachments.

What is adding the .safe attachment in the first place? Check the settings of the prog that does it.
Other option is just associate the extension .safe with the application you want them to open with.
3rd option is (if you need to rename multiple files) use a rename application like this one http://jackass.arsware.org/rm.php (http://jackass.arsware.org/rm.php)

Have you asked the person sending you these attachments which program they use to create the files?
www.filext.com doesn't have any info on .safe extensions but it references another database which mentions a program called dbwinsafe(?) but I can find no other info.
BTW I would be very wary of any attachment claiming to be safe ;)

::) Do you use by any chance OutPost firewall or another? Some firewalls have an attachment filter (plug-in) to rename incoming files. My firewall renames the files by adding the extension safe.
So if you receive test.doc, it's renamed to test.doc.safe.
I'm using OutPost and that's why certain attachments of my choice are renamed. It has nothing to do with my antivirus.
Just a suggestion. ;)

EVdB, very thanks for clarifing it...
I received a file like that: name.doc.safe
It's not a matter of another program but a file with two extensions, the second added by OutPost firewall... Thanks again ;)

thank you very much for your infos and help.,
I'am using Outpost Firewall. It was the attachment filter of this programm. Now it doesn't rename the attachment to name.doc.safe.

You're welcome, Technical. ;)
Sorry for the late reply, but I was on vacation. 8)
:) urli, you can change the option to only report it, so OutPost doesn't rename the incoming files.
