Title: Color Change to Forum?
Post by: Shalimar on August 31, 2010, 05:19:50 PM
Hmmm...am I truly "losing it" OR did the color scheme actually just change on me a few minutes ago?
I entered my other thread with the regular-looking color scheme, but after I posted my comment, the colors turned to "gold"..."Avast-gold"!  I thought at first perhaps some virus or malware had just attacked me...but I don't really think that is the case; at least I hope not!  Therefore, can someone be so kind as to tell me whether or not I am just imagining things? :o ;)

Pinch yourself yet, just to be sure?  ;)

They are just trying out the new skin.  You should be able to switch back if you don't like it.

Yep. It was change to the forum skin, unfortunately the new theme have some serious bugs which were not caught in our test environment nor during the "beta" testing. Because of this we were forced to roll that change back.

@Logos...
Hmmm...U got me good for a second, kiddo!  And do you know why?  Because I just now left another forum and when I came out, the color had changed back to blue, and I thought "oh, no"!  Then I saw your reply, and again I thought "oh, no"!  I quickly scanned the other replies and thought...well, I won't tell U what I really thought! ;D ;D ;D

You know, the goldish color is pretty, but I sure do like the blue a lot.  Whatever Avast decides to do is ok with me...and I'm sure they're just waiting for my approval!!! ???

Anyway, thanks a million!

I must have blinked and missed that first abortive try with the new format -- I'm set for forum default, and yesterday it was still displaying the old blue one.  For whatever reason I'm not crazy about the appearance of the new one, and I'll probably switch back to Classic just for the sake of familiarity with it.

No problem for me!

Go to PROFILE then Modify Profile then Forum Profile Information then select your country in Please select your country: then update your Signature: with information like my signature as this helps the helpers offer pertinent advice.

This look more simple and nice than the previous skin. I think it's a warning that the final version of avast! is about to be released.

I don't like this new look at all. Or the layout.

Then don't use it, change to the old default theme of one of the others, Babylon for instance.

If you don't like it put what it is you don't like about it or the layout in the topic about this.

It took me about 5 minutes to get used to the new Scheme.  It looks fine.  It is a little bare, but makes the posts easy to read.
Thanks to Avast for making a change.

I don't really like the new skin and went to change it. But when I look at my profile there is no option to change the forum related things, the only thing listed under 'Modify Profile' is 'Account Related Settings' which has nothing to do with the forum settings.

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=theme;sa=pick;u=49593;th=1 should change it. Forum layout is set under Look and Layout in the member profile.

The quote text really improved from the original gray and black letters.
It's better now. Maybe reduce the letter size to test.

Yes the look is cleaner now, with the quoted text boxes not overpowering the post and a slightly smaller font size for the quoted text and the Signatures looks much better as does the colour change of the text. The text is much clearer.

A point for all those whose Signatures extend beyond 3 lines, you will notice that you now have a scroll box so some of your signature isn't immediately displayed.

1. I still think that those links don't have to be Blue.

It is 50pixels, not three lines, just to be accurate.

<snip>

They say the first sign of insanity is when you start to talk to yourself, but here goes.

Since my above post on the Quoted text boxes, things have changed and now there is no box around the quoted text. Whilst this in a single quoted text example isn't a problem, however, in the case of nested quoted text examples it is near impossible to follow what has been attributed to whom.

The quoted text box is essential as they can become quite complex and without the text box near impossible to understand who said what.

See this example:
New amoeba for new posts/no new posts looks weird. The old one was better.
Problem with the old one was, that it was a part of the logo, thus it cannot be used for any other purpose - otherwise it would be degradation of the logo itself. But I will try to come with something better

We have just released another update, so now there is full user info and avatar img in the top, some font sizes have been changed to improve look of the messages etc.
I have also removed border from the quote, it seems to me that it is not necessary while the quote has different background - I think that the less borders the better

Thanks again all for your thoughts and ideas

Sorry but nested quotes without boxes are a mess as in my post with image above and using your nested quote also as an example.

Who said what ?

Or

So the move is normal.
Normal??? A freeware becomes a shareware... And the bla-bla-bla of the company:

You can still continue to use the Firewall for as long as you like and post on this forum. However, should you wish to upgrade in future, you will need to install PC Tools Internet Security.

I never trust companies that do that... SHAME!

Wow...I had to put my  8) sunglasses 8) on when entering the Avast forum just now!

IDEA!  If you think you've now got the color down pat, then how about working on 5 more colors...one for each day of the week! :o   We have 2 colors currently (blue and a goldish yellow), so how 'bout adding the following ones, also:

CURRENT COLORS:

  SKY BLUE Saturday
  (Avast currently)

  8) SUNGLOW 8) Sunday
  (Avast currently)
------------------------------------------

SUGGESTED NEW COLORS:

  "MANGO-TANGO"  Monday

  "TUMBLEWEED"  Tuesday

  "WISTERIA-HYSTERIA"  Wednesday

  "TICKLE-ME-PINK"  Thursday

  "FUZZY-WUZZY"  Friday

Hmmm...don't you think these color suggestions are simply "m-a-r-v-e-l-o-u-s"? :-*

Also, would it be possible to have all 7 of these color schemes up and running by next week? :P  I mean, that's not too much to ask, is it? ;D

By the way, you may or may not realize this, but only "one" of those 7 color descriptions is NOT a crayon color.  Without googling "crayon colors" ;), test yourself...which one of the 7 weekday descriptions is NOT a crayon color? :-\
(No, you are not allowed to open a new tab or new window while you are pondering your answer!) ::)
Study up because there might be a written test on this next week...if these colors haven't been turned into full-fledged Avast color schemes by then! 8)

<snip>

If this is your first foray into the new forum theme, if you think this is bright you should have seen what it was like first time out of the box, not pretty at all.

I don't like very bright and White is the worst and this almost matches my chosen windows XP theme, 'Zune,' which are dark Greys and Orange (almost Avast Corporate colours ;D) I also have the background colour in windows toned down from the default expanse of white.

Hmmm...thank you so much for wishing I could have "shared" in those experiences.  I especially appreciated your "thoughtfulness" after reading what SafeSurf said:

Gosh, guys, I'm soooooooooooo sorry I missed that! :D ;)

Ok, so I was originally trying to be cute!  I hope I didn't actually offend anyone because I was only trying to have some fun. ;)  After I posted it though, the thought crossed my mind that perhaps somebody really might take offense and be upset with my silliness, and that perhaps I might get into trouble for posting something like this.  I was almost afraid to come back and see if I had any replies, thinking maybe I should have simply kept my lips sealed! :-X

By the way, the answer to my question is "wisteria hysteria"; only "hysteria" not being a crayon color! ???  I must admit that my guess would have been "fuzzy wuzzy"! ;D

Actually, I honestly do think the goldish yellow color scheme is pretty and cool 8).
But with that said, I do find it is slightly hard on my eyes; a bit overwhelming when trying to quickly see the topics listed.  Also, when composing a comment, the background "preview" section seemed to make the text less clear to glance at.  For an all-around visual effect, I think the light blue is terrific...but perhaps when the new color is ready for permanent display, everything will turn out just fine. :) ( ::) )

Just a note.
I changed back to the original blue color.  I was finding the yellow too light and bright.  I wear glasses and am one of the older folks, so I guess that was the problem.  I do like the fact that we have been given another choice.

I like the LOOK.
There's just 1 thing I don't like.
When I am in the Comments area, the content is spread out to the point of needing to scroll horizontally to be able to see everything.  I don't recall the old format being like that.

What screen resolution are you using?

I'm using 1014x768 on my XP Pro system and the Comments area looks fine.
Title: Re: Color Change to Forum?
Post by: DavidR on September 07, 2010, 10:20:31 PM
What comments area ?
If you mean quoted text boxes, that depends on what is in the quoted text as for the most part I don't see a problem. My resolution is 1920x1200 but the browser window size I use is smaller 968x1113, I couldn't work with it at full screen.

I do find the profile information to the left of the posts is much longer seems stretched out.

So the font size for that section and blank lines could be reduced in that section. Also the signature font size could go down another point size or perhaps two and the same with the Quotes text font size.
Title: Re: Color Change to Forum?
Post by: Chim on September 08, 2010, 01:24:57 AM
Here's what I mean by the Comments Area.
Okay, in the Forum HOME area, everything is still Cool.  No scrolling needed.  :)
Then I'll click on a category ... like General Topics.
Everything is still Cool there as well.  No scrolling needed.  :)

THEN I'll click on a Post / Topic ... like the one we are on -- Color Change to Forum.
NOW is when on MY 17" Monitor, the content will be too spread out so that now I need to use the Horizontal Scroll Bar to be able to see all the content.  I don't recall that being the case with the old Forums format.

My 17" Monitor's resolution is 1024 x 768.

Who knows?  Maybe this new Forum format was optimized for BIG / WIDE Screens.

I rarely if ever use the Reply button, but use the Quick Reply window below the post.

There I can see the existing post without scrolling, if it is from another post I will obviously be using the Quote function. So the information I will be responding to will be in the Quick Reply window also, no problem.
