Title: Web Shield and Comodo Firewall?
Post by: oneupthextraman on September 01, 2010, 04:05:46 AM
I rather like Avast!, but I recently discovered that if I use Avast! and Comodo firewall, I fail the GRC leaktest, which is not a good thing. I also realized that the Comodo firewall does not animate when I use Avast, and there is only one program using the internet, and that is System, and according to Comodo firewall forums, that means that nothing is using the internet, which I know is false. And, even with comodo and avast on, I fail the leak test.

So, my question is; Does the Web Shield bypass the Comodo firewall, or any other firewalls? I want to have Avast scan my net activities, but I don't think it would protect me against attacks. How do I get Avast 5 and Comodo firewall to work together? MSE works fine with Comodo.

Are you using Defense+ of Comodo? If not, it could be the cause of failing the leak tests.
Web Shield works like a local proxy that scans the http traffic. It does not bypass the firewall.
The work of the firewall is to block the attacks. avast only scans.

I don't use Defense+, I only use the firewall, the most basic of basic of the feature set. I am running w7 x64, with all the correct versions. When I use MSE, and no defense+ on comodo, I pass the test. But with Avast, and the same Comodo settings, I fail, and comodo appears to do nothing.

I also level leak test as a bad application, but with Avast on, it does not matter.

Bump

When I use MSE with Comodo, it works fine, asking me about applications, but with Avast, Comodo only says that System is using the interent, and according to the Comodo forums, that means nothing is using the internet.

I am using the new Comodo 5.0 firewall and Avast! 5 free and I have no problems at all. I also have the most basic Firewall installation with no D+ or sandboxing. They work perfectly together for me. The Firewall animates and I have full connectivity. As far as GRC goes. I have always failed because it says port 113 is closed but not stealthed. A little research shows that this is nothing to worry about since many things like game programs use that authentication port and some routers do as well. More research will tell you that Steve Gibson invented the whole stealthed ports deal and made his website as a means of self-advancement. He is recognized in many places as being overly paranoid. In reality, a "closed " port is just as secure as a "stealthed" one.
