Title: avast has been removed
Post by: etl7777 on August 02, 2004, 09:29:43 PM
I installed avast 4 on a second pc about a month ago.  over the weekend avast disappeared.   there is no apparent virus infection but avast is no longer in the taskbar nor in programs.  however,  it does appear when one looks into add/remove programs.  It is not removable however.   Also over the weekend,  active x controls appear to have been turned off.   i redownloaded avast and reinstalled.

running on win98se with all updates applied.  also using ie6.
am behind hardware firewall.

Is there a virus/trojan/etc that can do this or is this most likely the work of someone messing on the computer and not knowing what they are doing?  this is not a home computer but is in what was thought to be a reasonably secure area.

Sounds like you may have hit the nail on the head. Might be another user on the pc causing what you have experienced.

thanks for the opinion.  that is what i thought but i just wanted to check to see if that was a known problem with anyone else.  appears that the proper "fix" is to lock the office door.
