Dose anyone know anything about this surprise??
-
Be patient, tomorrow comes soon enough. :)
-
I can't wait! ;D Its like the night before Christmas day, watch, I won't be able to sleep tonight...... I wonder whats its going to be? Avast! Internet Security for free? New features in Avast?
-
I was contacted by avast! staff member about it, but they haven't gone past "surprise" word so it's a surprise for real. And i have absolutely no clue what they are cooking. Tomorrow it is then :)
-
Well that is three of us on this topic with a little advance notice of the 'surprise' but no detail of what it might be, pleasant I'm sure. Patience is a virtue.
-
I was contacted also... But for the surprise to arise here in the other side of the Atlantic... It will take some days :)
-
I hope this is not a marketing scheme. We'll see tomorrow.

We are only talking about the general avast user surprise in this topic though :)
-
I already know what the surprise is, Avast Software has been sold to Symantec Corporation .
Just kidding, please don't hit me :'(
-
Hmmm i wonder what the surprise will be tomorrow :)
-
It's already "tomorrow" here. So where's the surprise? ;D
-
Tech,
How many days is a few? I checked the website on the 15th (today), and there isn't any surprise that I can see. ???
Maybe if I go to the site in England?
I went to the site in Europe and saw a free year with a subscription. Since I use Avast Free that isn't a surprise for me. Is there another surprise?

The waiting is killing me! ;D

-
Waiting,waiting...Erm, it's 8 p.m in my region now,and i want to see the surprise earlier then i'll go to my bed ;D
-
I'm not sure if your expectations aren't... erm, a bit too high ;)

ahoy!
I been seeing this pirate language for some time in some softwares
Especially Facebook, wait I am not seeing it now....arrr!
But check this Facebook Leet Speak
http://fb-lt.facebook.com/
Avast Ahoy language is really fun
;D
-
The pirate language is pretty cool but i find myself turning back to the original because it's a little hard to comprehend or understand what it's actually saying or meaning, still abit of fun though :)
-
It's a bit of a let down...
If you say: avast! have prepared a surprise for all users. As it is still top secret, we can’t give you more details right now.
then I would expect something along the lines of a cool new program.
But not a rather silly language pack with 'pirate talk'. I'm disappointed.

Yes, cool at first but hard to remember what the original sections were as Pirate talk doesn't match well with the English title of the sections. Since I use images extensively in the forums to help others it might blow their minds ;D
-
Try using PNG format. In most cases images are even smaller, yet they look better (no color banding).
-
Not what I have found using my image capture software (without editing/optimisation) the .gif file is smaller and more than good enough quality to show the points.
This one is basically the same pixel size, but with no annotations on the image, so should be even smaller, yet it is over twice the file size.
-
Not working for me. :(
Did as described here (http://www.avast.com/lp-talk-like-a-pirate#tab4), but here is not option in language drop down list (see pic)
nmb
-
You first have to use the Install additional languages, select Pirate Talk and click OK. It will then be installed and now when you click the down arrow it will be available as an additional language selection.
-
Bit of a letdown to me as well. I was hoping the big news would be a 5.1 beta or something.
Ah well, keep on waiting I guess. This Exchange 2010 server will just sit here twiddling its thumbs until I get A/V support for it.
-
Thanks sir DavidR.
It wasn't showing in the language list until I restarted.

Well the original instructions said to do a program update first, then the change language, but I did that and it didn't show. I then added the new language module and after it completed. I was able to get it in the drop down list. So I don't know why it didn't happen that way for you.

Well there are a few people actually at the MS Campus at the moment (Vlk, PK & Lukor I believe) working on 5.0 and 5.1.
So who knows, I saw it somewhere that on 23 August an avast team member said it is hoped to have 5.1 beta in a month which isn't far off (fingers crossed).
[Rumour out of control] I can't recall if the 5.0 beta was released after a stint of testing at the MS Campus at Redmond also.[/Rumour out of control]
-
nmb, did you already have the latest build of avast! (677) before you added the new language?
-
Hi igor,
Yes, I had.

Impossible me :)
I can be interested about animes but not about that ;)
Through in maplestory Pirates are quite awesome :P
-
Ok. Got it... but, sorry, how to remove a language version if we don't need it?
-
You can certainly do it the usual way - just like uninstalling any other module (Control Panel)
Or you can also use the "Install additional languages" button and uncheck the particular language.
-
This is quite a nice idea through :)
Thank you avast team :)

really nice idea from avast! i found it very interesting and funny. AV with pirate language is new for me. but, i'm not using it, sorry. i cant speak in pirate language. it makes me confused.
but..it's really nice idea. cheers matey!
PS : just want to ask, this pirate language edition is an optional update, am i wrong? so, i still be fine if i dont install it, do i?
-
Yes, the pirates are totally optional. ;)
-
If you look at the Add-Remove-Change menu, you'll see it's treated as an additional "language", like French, Italian, or you-name-it, where you can switch back and forth between whichever ones you've installed. Strictly optional, as already pointed out, and just for the fun of it.
The question's already been raised as to how long it will continue to be available for download, so you might as well get it now if you're even the least bit interested. I rather doubt it'll still be available when 5.1 comes out, but who knows?

Got another surprise this morning.
It takes a long time to get over to this side of the pond. :'(
Hopefully its not hijacked by some guberment blokes over 'ere.

Hi David....
Now I have a face (and a tiny bit of a room) with the name. :)
Regards...
-
The tiny bit of a room is my back bedroom and is where my computer lives, as it and the associated junk (sorry useful bits I may need one day) have taken over the room.
-
i haven't been getting those pop ups from avast at all..... all the pop ups that show for me is virus database was updated box.

Hi David....
I hear ya, in the days when I had the non-profit going, my apartment was pretty much filled with computers and computer parts. ;)

hey thanks for the tip ;D...and it shouldn't even be there at all if you ask me, promoting security software this way is a bit of a shame...and seeing "adults" adopt the "feature" is another type of shame...not mentioning those who find it funny, referring to "humor" etc... >>> this is called regression ;)

Arr mate, either come aboard or we'll make ye walk the plank. ;D
