Title: Problem trying to install Avast on Windows Server 2003
Post by: Fouinard on August 04, 2004, 08:41:23 PM
Hi,

I tried to install Avast with Windows 2003 but it tells me that i can only install it on Windows 2000/XP/etc... and then the install shuts down.

Knowing 2003 and XP are almost the same (same drivers etc...), is there a hope that one day there is an installation compatible with 2003 server ?

Thanks

I'm afraid not - it's not a technical problem, it cannot be installed on purpose. avast! 4 Home/Pro simply isn't meant to be used on server operating systems (avast! Server Edition should be used there).

Fouinard, yes there is an special version for Windows 2003 Server (not free).
See http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_server.html

Not meaning to cheat superior avast out of any business, but, for the meantime..:

ClamWin/Clam-AV is free and should run on Win2003 Server
- on-demand-scanner only at present -> i.e.: no Shield/resident protection/ on-access-scanner
- Pop3/Mail-scanner is supposed to be coming soon
