If getting the information needed from you can do this (like your HijackThis log) can help us, then we ask you to please provide it.
i received this from the technical support team but can someone explain it - set the Web Shield "Heuristics sensitivity" to low and try again? What they want you do to is this:

Yes now would be a good idea to reinstall AIS.Perhaps the OP should hold off on reinstalling AIS until Essexboy is done uninstalling his tools. He has a routine, which I'm used to seeing, and I do not believe he is done yet, nor given the OP the "Spring CleanUp." He should be back to the forum soon.
AIS uninstalled and reinstalled BUT what is strange is the Windows Security Center is "warning" that AIS is OUT OF DATE? what do i do? does the license expire? it was purchased on 3 weeks ago?
should i continue to run OTS and provide a file log?
@ Skowy,The fact is, he is having the same problem as I used to.
Please disregard ziucqea's post as he was warned in another thread by another Evang. for what he is doing now. Continue to follow Essexboy's instructions. Thank you.
NOTE: the avast Install was not successful -In what way ?

OK I now think we can rule out malware - so we are looking at a system problem now. Now we need to determine why webshield is not allowed to go through the firewall .
i purchased and downloaded everything and completed each task according to your instructions; but it was unsuccessful in solving the problem of browser connectivity using Avast Internet Security version 5. <snip> If it is NOT the computer or the operating system NOT malware related then what is it?Essexboy is not done with you yet. He stated above that he now ruled out malware, but he needs to figure out if it is a systems problem. We need to rule one thing out at a time before moving on to the next step. I know you want to get things working in your machine, and we are doing the best we can and as quickly as we can, and we appreciate your patience. :)
Files Infected:
C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\My Documents\office\Programs\Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended\Adobe CS4 Activation Patch\Adobe CS4 Keygen.exe (Trojan.Downloader) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Like i said it should have some sort of a roll-back feature to restore your system state to what it was before Uniblue "optimized" it.
Looks like the Avast Service is missing from your copy and you have a duplicated Avast Antivirus - could this be the problem
Definitely requires one of the developers to follow this thread PK maybe ?

does turning off the avast firewall solve the problem? Are you able to browse with webshield enabled and firewall turned off?
Edit: We should first find out what component is the problematic one. So the first step is to rule out the firewall. So please try it with firewall disabled. If it works, we might try to tune the firewall, if it does not help, leave it turned off, and we can try to find out other offending part. To me it seems that something on your system (and it seems it has already seen quite a lot) is messing with the redirect feature in avast! that is used both by WebShield and MailShield. Don't understand however, how tuning down the heuristics sensitivy might help though.

ZEROSGHOST - I am using AIS 5 not Avast Pro 5 so this problem may not relate
@ Charyb,
Thanks for your input, but the OP's issues has involved the Avast Team, developers as well as the Evang. Thank you.
I FIXED IT!!!! I ran the Windows XP Winsockfix utility and I am good to go! Whoever is having this issue on XP, try this file out - http://majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html .

Yes Charyb i tried it - it took me to registry mechanic and cost me $75 "ouch" but it didn't work -
Thanks for your input SafeSurf Charyb had a similar idea as the Tech Guy at Avast unfortunately It didnt work, I think I may have downloaded the incorrect program - the tech guy at avast advised http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4372&file=15&evp=4578a0d2691013178f302c260093894b
