Title: [SOLVED] Mail Shield causing trobule, again... edited... still in trouble.
Post by: MasterTB on September 22, 2010, 01:18:58 PM
I've been using Avast! for a while now, first the free version now -pending purchase- the Internet Suite.
And even though it has been relatively easy to configure, the mail shield continues to cause some kind of trouble.
I use Gmail, and have it configured for IMAP access but, when I set the accounts on Avast!, it changes the 993 IMAP port to 995 POP3 port and my mail client stops receiving mails...
What's up with that???

Martin.-

PS, my email client is Opera's M2, and it is configured following the knowledge base articles on the support site so no issues there.

Edit: Look at the picture: I use IMAP for gmail. As I set my mail client to the proper servers, Avast warns me of the SSL connections (which it has already detected) and tells me to change the settings accordingly. As soon as I do that, the mail client cannot connect anymore and Avast ads a second gmail account with POP3 settings? WTF??
Why does it do that?

Martin, again :)

PSS I had another thread started http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=61973.0 in which I learned how to configure the mail shield but still no luck. I didn't post there because it was too old and I got a warning in red telling me to consider starting a new one. So here it is.

I really need help on this guys.
Windows Live mail refuses to authenticate when I change the settings to work with the mail shield and Gmail won't even connect.
What is going on?

So.. is there ever going to be some answer here?
Mail client is properly configured using the Avast help.
Avast is properly configured with the strange case of both IMAP and POP3 gmail accounts (the pop3 one is automatically created by avast for no apparent reason)
Cannot send mails with windows live hotmail, no matter what I do to either Avast or Opera, only disabling mail shield works.

Really need some assistance here.

So... will anyone care to explain why the mail shield behaves this way? I just bought a 2 years license of AIS and money is an issue for me so disabling shields because they act up and don't work is NOT AN OPTION.
Come on people... some help?
Why is it that avast insist on creating a pop3 gmail account when I use IMAP and pop3 is not even enabled on my gmail settings? what the hell is wrong with it? I set up the accounts even before using my mail client. reinstalled Avast and Opera just to be safe, no luck. AIS still creates that pop3 account and as soon as I configure Opera to go through Avast I have no mail because it connects to the pop3 account and not the IMAP one.

There's got to be a fix for this. I have submitted a bug report and had no assistance from Avast either. I use this mail to work so I NEED IT TO WORK.

Reinstalling both programs seems to have worked for now, don't know why though.
